War Cry

And they made us fight for this

without knowing we're warriors for this

from a literate people for this

as I take in the beauty of this

and they say we aren't made for this

and they can't see the fierce in us

and it doesn’t matter

what we think of us

because these compulsory spaces of this

exclude the whole fullness of us

and they'll deny the fearing of us

of being a literate us

while they keep us fighting with us

instead of advancing as us

and my tears

have flowed deep for this

and I know

we can

do better . . .

because . . .

THIS.
